Jane Franklin Dance is known for its lively mix of dance, theatre, and humor and for the ability to engage audiences of all ages. Recognized by Virginia's Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts and the American Association of University Women Elizabeth Campbell Award for the Advancement of the Arts in Arlington, Jane Franklin Dance tours for the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Paul Mellon Arts in Education Program and the Virginia Commission's Tour Directory. A vibrant part of the cultural community, Jane Franklin Dance offers workshops for older adults, performances for children and dance education.  Collaborations blend dance with visual arts and are designed for stage or merge with environment as in Breaking Ground, a Creative Communities Initiative project inspired by round wall skateboarding.

Performances

Dance is combined with three dimensional art, spoken word, and original music. Dances may interact with the architecture of a specific location in the community or reference unexpected places.  Incidence features a life-size kinetic sculpture that is manipulated by the dancers. Cute Animals a public art project for the City of Alexandria combined dogs & owners with professional dancers.

Dance Education

Professional dance educators guide students in fundamental dance elements to encourage creative exploration and critical thinking. Older adults engage in active participation through workshops by Forty+ a performing group developed by Jane Franklin with dancers past the age of 40.

Performances for Children

Jane Franklin Dance performances for children provide a creative connection to the literary arts through physical story-telling.

Jane Franklin Dance is supported in part by Arlington Cultural Affairs Division of Arlington Economic Development and the Arlington Commission for the Arts, Alexandria Commission for the Arts, Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts; Arlington Senior Recreation and Community Engagement Fund of the Arlington Community Foundation, Washington Forrest Foundation.
