Skate Around Arlington this Winter

Lace up your skates and get on the ice this winter in Arlington! From beginners to the pros, Arlington has a rink for you.

Choose between two distinct ice skating venues and while you're there, make sure to explore the neighborhoods that surround them. After all, you'll probably work up quite the appetite on the ice...

1. Westpost Outdoor Ice Skating at National Landing

Located in what was formerly known as Pentagon Row, Westpost's outdoor ice skating venue has always been a favorite among Arlingtonians. This 7,200 square foot ice rink is now the largest outdoor rink in Northern Virginia and the second largest in the state. Skate time reservations are highly recommended and are discounted over the walk-up rate. You can reserve your time up to 2 weeks in advance of your visit and don't need to worry about bringing your own skates - they've got you covered with rentals. Admission tickets are valid for up to 2 hours of skating, providing you with plenty of time to show off your skills.

While you're in National Landing:

Situated in one of Arlington's fastest growing neighborhoods, ice skating at Westpost certainly comes with its perks. Stay close to the rink by checking out Westpost dining options like Basic Burger, Lebanese Taverna, Mimi's Handmade Ice Cream, and Lucky Danger or venture further out into National Landing and try places like Epic Smokehouse, Makers Union, Good Company Doughnuts, and Chevys Fresh Mex.

Once you've crushed those hunger cravings, make sure to check out Fashion Centre at Pentagon City for the chance to do some serious shopping, burn off your meal by checking out another Arlington favorite, Virginia Highlands Park, if it's not too chilly outside, or head inside to the DEA Museum to learn a thing or two about America's Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).

2. MedStar Capitals Iceplex in Ballston

Want to skate where the Washington Capitals practice? MedStar Capitals Iceplex is open for indoor public skating at select times during the week. Much like Westpost, you're able to rent hockey skates or figure skates here and should plan on registering to skate beforehand. If you're 21+, you can participate in "Adult Swim," intended for adult beginner skaters looking to practice their skills without children or experienced skaters whirling past them on the ice.

While you're in Ballston:

The Iceplex is conveniently located in Ballston Quarter, which is home to a number of fun activities, delicious restaurants, and trendy shops.
