Celebrate Labor Day Weekend in Arlington, Virginia
We get it. No one wants to say farewell to the lazy days of summer, and here in Arlington, we’re certainly enjoying an unusually (and wonderfully) mild summer season.
Nevertheless, Labor Day weekend, the unofficial end of summer, is approaching, and in Arlington, there are quite a few ways to send those summer memories off with terrific fanfare.
Throughout the weekend, there are dozens of possibilities for sightseeing and entertainment. To enjoy the last weeks of warm temperatures, take a stroll through Fort C.F. Smith. Once a Civil War fort, the land today is the location of an historic home, a walking trail, ornamental peace garden and Visitors Center. And of course, Labor Day weekend is the perfect time to indulge in a little retail therapy, and the merchants at malls like Fashion Centre at Pentagon City or Ballston Quarter plan great deals for back to school or to get an early start on holiday shopping.
Labor Day Weekend Events
- Enjoy Labor Day Weekend with a dose of patriotism from summer concerts.
- Bring a picnic and enjoy the sounds of the Netherlands Carillon while enjoying a spectacular view of the D.C. skyline. The 50 bells of the Netherlands Carillon hang in an open steel tower, a symbol of Dutch regard for American aid during and after World War II. The carillon's peaceful setting, with its floral libraries and sculpted lions, is the perfect place to listen to the music of the bells from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 3.
